Compact 1.6 Tbps Fixed-Configuration Universal Router

The Juniper MX301 is a 1U fixed-configuration universal routing platform built on Juniper's Trio 6 silicon. It delivers 1.6 Tbps from four 400GbE QSFP56-DD ports, six 100GbE QSFP28 ports, and sixteen SFP ports that run at 1, 10, 25, or 50GbE, with line-rate MACsec on every WAN port. Juniper's hardware guide describes the MX301 and MX301-M as enhancing the capabilities of the MX204, and with the MX204's last order date set for June 15, 2027, the MX301 is the fixed-configuration MX that MX204 deployments will migrate to.

BrightStar Systems supplies the MX301-HW-BASE and MX301-M-HW-BASE bundles on a request-for-quote basis. Every unit we supply is tested on our 9-point process and covered by our 1-year in-house warranty for end users.

MX301 vs MX301-M

The two models are identical in ports, silicon, and forwarding performance and differ only in memory: the MX301 carries 128 GB and the MX301-M 64 GB. Choose the MX301 for larger control-plane scale and headroom; the MX301-M where routing scale is modest and cost matters more.

Common MX301 Deployment Scenarios

MX204 replacement and expansion: four times the MX204's capacity in the same 1U, with 400GbE uplinks and 25/50GbE hand-offs.
Metro and business edge: dense 10/25GbE customer-facing ports with 100GbE and 400GbE toward the core.
Encrypted service delivery: line-rate MACsec on all 26 WAN ports.
Timing-sensitive transport: SyncE and PTP (G.8275.1) for mobile backhaul and similar roles.

MX301 vs Other MX Platforms

MX204: 400 Gbps, 1U fixed. Compact edge and small POPs; last order date June 15, 2027.
MX301: 1.6 Tbps, 1U fixed. MX204 successor for 400G edge, metro, and encrypted services.
MX304: up to 4.8 Tbps, modular with 3 LMIC slots. High-density 100G/400G edge and aggregation.
