MPC4E-3D-2CGE-8XGE Router
The Juniper Networks MPC4E-3D-2CGE-8XGE is a Modular Port Concentrator (MPC) that’s compatible with Juniper Networks MX Series routers, specifically the MX240, MX480 and MX960.
Software: Junos OS Release 12.3R2 and later.
It’s designed as a fixed-configuration MPC, as opposed to many other MPCs, which are modular and require Modular Interface Cards (MICs).
The MPC4E-3D-2CGE-8XGE is one of only two MPC4E line cards. It includes two CFP ports that support 100G Ethernet and eight SFP+ ports that support 10G. It’s compatible only with MX240, MX480 and MX960 routers that have high-capacity power supplies and fan trays.
The MPC4E-3D-2CGE-8XGE is also referred to as the 2x100GE + 8x10GE MPC4E.
The other MPC4E line card is the MPC4E-3D-32XGE-SFPP. It does not require high-capacity power supplies and fan trays in order for the MPC to power on.
Due to power restrictions, the MX480 router, which has six MPC slots, can only support five MPC4E-3D-2CGE-8XGE cards. The MX960 can only support 10, although it has 11 MPC slots.
But if the ambient temperature is between 25 and 40 degrees Celsius, all six slots on the MX480 and all 11 slots on the MX960 can be equipped with the MPC4E-3D-2CGE-8XGE.
With a maximum capacity of 260 Gbps, the MPC4E-3D-2CGE-8XGE utilizes Juniper’s intelligent oversubscription services to prioritize the most important packets.
The MPC4E-3D-2CGE-8XGE can also be configured to interoperate with Juniper legacy routers, including the T1600 and T4000, that support the 100G Type 4 Ethernet Physical Interface Card (PIC) — model number PD-1CECFP- FPC4.
