MPC5EQ-100G10G Modular Port Concentrators (MPC)
The MPC5EQ-100G10G is a Modular Port Concentrator (MPC) designed for Juniper MX Series router chassis, including the MX240, MX480, MX960, MX2008, MX2010 and MX2020.
Many MPCs are designed as modular devices that support up to two Modular Interface Cards (MICs), and each MIC has is designed with a different port configuration.
But many MPCs, like the MPC5EQ-100G10G, are designed as fixed-configuration devices. The MPC5EQ-100G10G is made with two 100G Ethernet ports and four 10G Ethernet ports. The 100G ports are compatible with CFP2 optics; the 10G ports are compatible with SFP+ optics.
There are several classes of MPC devices, starting with MPC1E up to MPC10E. The MPC5EQ-100G10G is part of the MPC5E class. There are four MPC5E models, the most of any class. The MPC5EQ-100G10G is one of only two MPCs that support 100G Ethernet.
The MPC5EQ-100G10G is also referred to as the 2x100GE + 4x10GE MPC5EQ.
The primary difference between this device and the other MPC5E model that supports up to 100G Ethernet, the MPC5E-100G10G, is the Hierarchical Quality of Service (HQoS) feature. This prioritizes service delivery based on the application, user, VLAN, and physical ports.
Juniper MPC5E models that include the HQoS feature can support up to 1 million queues.
On some MX Series routers, including the MX240, MX480 and MX960, the MPC5EQ-100G10G will power on only if the network services mode on the router is configured to enhanced-IP or enhanced-Ethernet. The MX2008, MX2010 and MX2020 routers only support enhanced-IP.
The MPC5EQ-100G10G has a maximum capacity of 240 Gbps, which provides enough throughput to support the two 100G Ethernet ports and the four 10G Ethernet ports.
