The Juniper MPC7E-MRATE-RB is a Modular Interface Card (MIC) compatible with Juniper MX Series routers, including the MX240, MX480, MX960, MX2008, MX2010 and the MX2020.

One of the best features of MPC7E configurations is flexibility. The Juniper MPC7E configuration includes 12 QSFP+ ports, all of which support up to 40G Ethernet. However, four of the ports — 0/2, 0/5, 1/2 and 1/5 — support 100G Ethernet and every port supports 10G Ethernet with the use of a breakout cable.

This MPC7E card provides a line-rate throughput of up to 480 Gbps when used with MX240, MX480 or MX960 routers. If you use the MPC7E-MRATE-RB on MX2000 routers with standard Switch Fabric Boards (SFB) installed, expect a line-rate throughput of up to 400 Gbps. The MPC7E capacity on MX2000 routers with enhanced Switch Fabric Boards (SFB2) installed increases up to 430 Gbps.

The MPC7E-MRATE-RB line card is also available with Hierarchical Quality of Service (HQoS), which prioritizes service delivery by application, VLAN, physical ports and user information. You can even upgrade it with an add-on license that enables up to 32,000 flexible queues.

As for the Juniper MPC7E-MRATE vs MPC7E-MRATE-RB, there are several similarities, including the MPC7E-MRATE throughput. However, the MPC7E-MRATE-RB from Juniper Networks supports full-scale L2, L2.5 and L3 VPN features for a diversified configuration, while the MPC7E-MRATE only supports L2 and L2.5 and has reduced L3 features.
