The Juniper PTX10001-36MR is a fixed-configuration 1U packet transport router built on Juniper’s fourth-generation Express silicon. It delivers 9.6 Tbps of throughput from 24 QSFP56-DD ports capable of 400GbE and 12 QSFP28 ports capable of 100GbE, with interfaces operating at 10, 25, 40, 100, and 400 Gbps and breakout support. Juniper positions the PTX10001-36MR for peering, core routing, and infrastructure edge routing in cloud provider, service provider, and content provider networks.
Inline MACsec is supported on all 100-Gigabit and 400-Gigabit interfaces. The control plane is a 2.1 GHz 12-core Intel CPU with 64 GB of RAM and dual 200 GB M.2 SSDs running Junos OS Evolved. Power comes from two 3000 W supplies, AC/HVDC or DC (the two types are not mixed in one chassis), in 1+1 redundancy, and cooling from six hot-swappable fan modules with dual counter-rotating fans. Juniper’s power planning figures list 1,538 W typical and 2,112 W maximum for a fully loaded chassis.
Internet peering and core routing: full-scale routing tables with 400G density in a single rack unit.
IP/MPLS transport and infrastructure edge: high-capacity aggregation between metro, core, and data center sites.
Encrypted interconnect: inline MACsec on 100G and 400G links between facilities without a throughput penalty on the ports.
100G-to-400G migration: the 12 QSFP28 ports and QSFP-DD backward compatibility let a site run 100G today and move links to 400G as optics are added.
The PTX10002-36QDD is the 2U, 800GbE step up at 28.8 Tbps; choose it when 800G links or more than 24 ports of 400G are in the plan. The PTX10001-36MR is sold under three part numbers: PTX10001-36MR, PTX10001-36MR-K (identical hardware plus TPM 2.0 with DevID for secure zero-touch provisioning) and PTX10001-36MR-LT. No. As of September 2026 the PTX10001-36MR does not appear on Juniper’s PTX Series hardware milestones list. The earlier PTX10001-20C and PTX10001-36C reached end of support on December 31, 2024, so check the exact part number when comparing listings.
